The Hunter Valley African Violet Society promotes growing beautiful African Violets and other members of the Gesneriaceae family. We meet at The Cardiff Senior Citizens Centre - most of our members live in Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, the Central Coast and the Hunter Valley. We also have members from Sydney and interstate.
Our next Gesneriad meeting is Sunday 12th January 2020, a combined meeting with the Gesneriad Groups of the Hunter Valley African Violet Society and the African violet Association of Austrlaia. Topic is My (Current) Favourite Gesneriad.
Our next African Violet meeting is on Australia Day 26th January 2020. In honour of Australia Day there will be a flower show of African Violets and Gesneriads hybridised by Australians. We will also have additional classes in the mini show for plants hybridised in Australia.
Our next major event is our Annual Show.
Open to the public 10am to 4pm Sunday 3rd May 2020 at Cardiff Senior Citizens Centre. Judging will take place on Saturday. See Annual Show for more details.
In 2019 we participated in The Plant Lovers Fair at Kariong for the first time and will be there again in 2020. Dates are Saturday 26th & Sunday 27th September 2020..
At both events we will be selling African Violets including
of Standards, Semiminiatures, Miniatures and Trailers.
'Other' Gesneriads including
of Achimenes, Aeschynanthus,Codonanthe, Columnea, Episcia, Gloxinia, Kohleria, Nematanthus, Petrocosmea, Seemannia, Sinningia, mini Sinningia, Smithiantha, Streptocarpus.
